With a population of over 10 million, Jakarta, the capital of
Indonesia, is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. And
as this Southeast Asian hub flourishes, so does its businesses,
incuding shopping haunts. With more investors and visitors thronging the
city, Jakarta is now a rising metropolis and home to some of the most
glitzy shopping venues on the archipelago.
Here is a list of the top five shopping districts in Jakarta.
1. Central Jakarta for the fashion savvy
An important stop for visitors, central Jakarta offers a wide range of shopping options, with humongous shopping malls that will take you at least a couple of days to cover. Plaza Indonesia, for example, has 250 stores, and even expanded in late 2009 to hold more tenants, leaving fashion lovers and trendsetters spoilt for choice. Some international retailers include Prada, Cartier, Hermes and Bally. Adjacent to Plaza Indonesia is eX, an entertainment center dedicated to a markedly younger crowd.
